Should I buy FL studio and what version?
Main Post:
I love to make some beats on my computer and I came across FL studio. I'm looking to buy it. Be fully unbiased with me... Is it worth it?
*If you said yes to that question, what version should I purchase?

Buy plugins or FL studio
Main Post:
I use Reaper, mostly in built plugins and free tools (e.g.. TDR Nova, etc). Now I feel I need something more to improve - should I buy plugins on black Friday e.g. UAD bundle, sonnox, Ozone standard, etc or buy full FL studio. Considering the budget is same for both options. Any other suggestions are also welcome.
Top Comment:
I used FL for a couple of decades, and now i use Reaper, so i think i can say something you may want to hear.
As the other user suggested, you don't improve buying plugins, but producing music.
With that said, it's also normal to feel some limits with stock plugins. Reaper have some very good ones, while others not so much.
I started playing with audio and music something around '97 and i spent a ton of money on plugins (this thought is a nightmare for my wallet) so let me suggest you something i'd say to the past myself.
Don't fall in the marketing trap, and buy only things you really need, and only when you know 100% of the tools you already have, otherwise is just laziness, even if you don't get it.
The purchace suggestion i give you, after owning almost any plugin in the market, is to spend your money once but well. The Melda MComplete Bundle, is expensive AF, but it's the only suite you need (90% of effects i use on my sessions comes from there) on BF you can get them at 50% so it's the right moment to buy them.
I know these don't looks fancy as other plugins, and the learning curve may be a bit steep for some of them, but at least you can buy it learn it, and forget about plugins for the rest of your life (well at least fx).
These also comes with free lifetime upgrade, so you get newer things and updates free of charge, and here you can also see the value over the time even if the price may be steep.
Just in case, i don't work for them, i'm just someone who spent a ridiculus ammount of money over decades, and now i've found something good to use that cover almost everything.
Hope it helps
Should i buy studio monitors in untreated room who hasn't ever purchased studio monitors before?
Main Post:
Hey folks,
I know this question has been asked a million times here, but here I am adding to the pile. I make music for a living, and after years of working with headphones, I’m finally considering buying a pair of studio monitors.
Here’s my situation:
- I’ve been mixing and mastering on DT770 Pro headphones, and my mixes sound alright. Over the years, I’ve improved, and while the average listener probably wouldn’t notice anything off, an audio geek could definitely nitpick.
- I’m not obsessed with achieving pristine, textbook-perfect mixes. I tend to settle for “good enough” rather than spending a whole day tweaking a snare EQ. That said, I do want to step up my game and get a more professional sound. I feel like studio monitors could help me hear what’s really missing in my mixes, offering a fresh perspective compared to headphones.
Now, here’s where it gets tricky:
- I’ve never owned a pair of monitors before.
- I just moved into a new place, and my room (12'x13') is untreated. I can’t drill into walls or install panels/curtains because my landlord won’t allow it.
- I’ve heard that a solid beginner option is the Kali Audio LP6 V2, but if my room isn’t treated, I feel like I won’t be able to hear their full potential.
So, my question is:
- Should I even bother with studio monitors in this situation?
- If yes, what’s a good, budget-friendly pair I can start with to train my ears without breaking the bank?
Appreciate any advice you can share!
Top Comment: Yes, get them. Then when you get some more money, treat your room. Mix with both headphones and speakers.
